Bio

Rev. Greg Martin made the transition to Unitarian Universalist ministry in 2012. He currently serves as the Consulting Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Portage, Michigan. However, he is no stranger to ministry, having served in that role in the United Methodist Church for 28 years. While noted as a minister in higher education settings, he has served in a variety of places from small town to urban and suburban in small, mid-size and large congregations. His Master of Divinity degree is from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC., where he began his professional life working on Capitol Hill. Greg is the father of two daughters, Katie, an attorney in Chicago and a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, and Lexie, a junior majoring in Psychology at Kalamazoo College.
He is an avid cyclist, political junkie, poet, Henry David Thoreau scholar, and has a deep fascination with the evolving universe. He is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ rights and full inclusion in our society. He grew up in Southwestern Michigan, where his mother’s family settled in 1824.
His spiritual journey, deeply rooted in the Transcendentalists, has brought him to Unitarian Universalism, where he regards himself as a mystical naturalist. He also draws from Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Earth-based religions for his spiritual practice.
